everyone in our family, our entire society, will benefit from our peace."

About Me | Kaori Stram, Licensed Psychotherapist
Welcome to a Space for Healing and Growth
I'm Kaori Stram, a licensed psychotherapist with over 20 years of experience helping adults (18+) navigate anxiety, depression, trauma recovery, and relationship challenges. My mission is to create a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental environment where you can explore your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to achieve a more fulfilling life.
Professional Background & Specializations
I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from New York University (NYU) and am a certified AEDP® therapist and supervisor.
My clinical experience spans domestic violence agencies, community mental health clinics, trauma centers, college counseling offices, and private practice. I have a deep understanding of immigrant, Asian, and Asian-American experiences, recognizing the unique challenges they may face.
My Therapy Approach
I believe in a collaborative, heart-centered, and human-to-human approach to therapy. Using AEDP® Psychotherapy, I help clients process emotions, heal from trauma, and develop self-compassion. Therapy with me is like exploring a deep cave with flashlights—moving through the darkness of pain to uncover light, hope, and inner strength.
My Story
Growing up in Tokyo, Japan, I was raised in a culture that emphasized harmony and respect for others, sometimes at the cost of self-expression. Moving to the United States was a turning point, as I learned to balance my cultural values with self-advocacy. My personal experiences with therapy helped me embrace both my Japanese heritage and my own voice, shaping my deep empathy and passion for psychotherapy.
Beyond the Office
Outside of my work, I enjoy yoga, meditation 🧘♀️, and karate 🥋, which support my mind-body balance. I live in Westchester, NY, with my husband, two teenagers, a dog 🐶, and two cats 🐈⬛🐈⬛.
